In Celebration of Birthday Of Dr, Martin Luther King Jr, the Evanston Art Center, Fleetwood Jordan Theater, and Insight Arts Will Present an Evening Program Exploring His Legacy Through Current Visual Culture and Political Moment on Tuesday, January 22, 2013.

 

PROGRAM: Down With the King: Observing the Legacy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DATE: Tuesday January 22, 2013

TIME: 7pm- 9pm

LOCATION: FLEEDWOOD-JORDAIN COMMUNITY CENTER

1655 FOSTER STREET- EVANSTON, IL

 

  In celebration of the birthday of Dr, Martin Luther King Jr., the Evanston Art Center, Fleetwood Jordan Theater, and Insight Arts will present a program on the legacy of Dr. King viewed through our current visual culture and political moment. An idea exchange will follow the film screening moderated by W. Keith Brown, Evanston Art Center Director of Education. This event features his Mountaintop Speech, an interview expert from James Baldwin and viewing work by two contemporary artists.

The program is free and open to public.

SCREENING:

Mountaintop Speech delivered April 3, 1968 at the Mason Temple (Church of God in Christ Headquarters) in the Memphis, Tennessee the day before King was assassinated (23 minutes)

  Note: The Fleetwood Theater is holding its own MLK Day event at their community center on January 19th 12pm.
