Code ClubEach month we’ll look at different kinds of secret codes. Learn how to crack them and make a useful coding device to send secret messages of our own! Please registerSaturday, April 22, 11 am, Barbara Friedberg Storytelling Room, Main Library. 

Graphic Novel Book Club: Lunch Lady! You love graphic novels, now come talk about them! Discuss Jarrett Krosoczka’s Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute. Stop by the children’s desk to check out a copy so you can read it before the book club meeting. For grades 3-5. Registration required. Wednesday, April 26, 7 - 8 pm, Children's Public Conference Room. Jammie Time

For Kids in Preschool and Lower Elementary: 

Jammie Time! Children's Librarians will do bedtime storytime for you! Bring the kids in jammies for fun stories and songs. Jammie Time is geared to kids ages 2 - 9; everyone in the family is welcome. Thursday, April 20, 7 pm, Children's Room, Main Library

Purple Crayon Players Storytime and Craft: Join us for a fun storytime and craft led by NU students who've studied Children's Theater! Everyone welcome, but the stories and craft are geared to preschool and elementary school children. End your week with NU kids and fun! Friday, April 21, 4 pm, Children's Room, Main Library

Stop, Drop and Read Celebration! (Week of the Young Child). To celebrate Week of the Young Child, EPL is having a "Stop, Drop and Read" event. Five reading volunteers will be waiting at the "tree" in the Main Children's Room to read to your child. Bring your kids, meet an Evanston Public Library volunteer, and listen to a great story or two!  Wednesday, April 26, 9:30 to 10:30 am, Children's Room, Main Library. 

For Everyone

Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros Celebration! Celebrate Dia de los Ninos (Children's Day) with us! Enjoy storytelling by community members, Manuel Aleman and Isidro Lucas in the Friedberg room from 2-2:30 pm and then stay to make an awesome night light in our Art garden from 2:30-3:30 pm. EPL After Hours Screens: Academy Award Winning Film Moonlight. Join us just after the Library closes to view this drama that charts the life of a black gay youth named Chiron as he grows up in a rough neighborhood in Miami. Friday, April 28, 6 pm, Community Meeting Room, Main Library

Love Between the Covers: Documentary Film Screening and Discussion. Do romance novels exploit women or empower them? Why is romance the best-selling genre in publishing? View "Love Between the Covers," by Emmy Award winning filmmaker Laurie Kahn. After the film, three local romance writers will be on hand for a panel discussion moderated by romance scholar Eric Selinger, of DePaul University. Saturday, April 29, 2 to 4:30 pm. The September Issue

EPL and Evanston History Center present: The September Issue (documentary film). The September 2007 issue of Vogue weighed nearly five pounds. It was the single largest issue of a magazine ever published. With unprecedented access, this film tells the story of legendary Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and her  team of editors creating the issue and ruling the world of fashion. In anticipation of the new exhibit “Evanston Accessorized,” running May 1 to  December 31, 2017, the Evanston History Center and the Evanston Public Library are happy to present this documentary and accompanying Adult Do-It-Yourself jewelry craft. Sunday, April 30, 1 pm, Community Meeting Room, Main Library.

Teen Table Top Game Night. Take on your friends and other Evanston teens in epic Uno battles, Life or any of the Loft’s board game collection or bring your own game to play.  Grades 6-12.  Drop in. Mondays, 4-7 pm, The Loft, Main Library

Let's Talk: Teens and Evanston Police Department. In partnership with JusBelieve, Inc and the EPD, teens can discuss issues of concern with the EPD and learn about the procedures EPD follows in different situations. Stan Azeem, from JusBelieve, Inc and Christian Farr from NBC 5 will help facilitate the discussion. Attendees will also learn about the different skills and requirements needed to pursue a career in a police department. Refreshments will be provided. Monday, May 8, 5:30 pm. Homeowners' Financial Protections and Rights Workshop. EPL and Open Communities present a workshop on consumer advocacy issues related to general home-ownership. Topics covered will include: appealing property taxes, underwater scenarios and refinancing, how to file an official financial complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and/or Attorney General's office, and what rights you have should you ever fall behind on your mortgage payments. Wednesday, April 26, 7 pm, Community Meeting Room, Main Library

Kick off Earth Day Weekend with Temperance Beer Co. and Evanston Public Library

Engage mind, body and spirit at "Temperance Trikonasana" which pairs beer with yoga and a good cause. Jenny Arrington will bring her unique blend of Vinyasa, Kundalini and Yin Yoga to the brewery, and once bodies and minds are opened, everyone is invited to share a post-Savasana beer and learn about the Evanston Public Library. All levels welcome. Please bring your own mat.  Cost: $15. ALL proceeds will benefit the Evanston Public Library.  First-come, first-served. Tickets available in advance or at the door.
