The City of Evanston will begin Phase 1 of the Chicago Avenue/Sheridan Road Corridor Improvement Project on Monday, March 27. Phase 1 includes improvements on Chicago Avenue, from Grove Street to Sheridan Road.
The project will include roadway resurfacing and reconstruction; construction of a new protected bike lane; curb and gutter replacement; traffic signal modernization; installation of new water main, storm sewer and drainage structures; new pavement markings; and landscaping. The improvement work is part of the City’s continuous program to improve the roadway system throughout the community and is funded by federal and local funds.
Phase 1 Schedule
Phase 1 construction will begin the week of March 27. During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times. Street resurfacing and bike lane construction should be complete by early June.
Construction zone “No Parking Anytime” restrictions will be in effect on Chicago Avenue, between Davis Street and Sheridan Road, for the duration of construction. Parking will be available in the Church Street parking garage.
Overall Project Schedule
This project will be completed in three phases:
- Phase 1, March 27, 2017 through June 12, 2017: Chicago Avenue, from Grove Street to Sheridan Road
- Phase 2, June 19, 2017 through September 15, 2017: Sheridan Road, from Chicago Avenue to Lincoln Street
- Phase 3, April 1, 2018 through October 19, 2018: Sheridan Road, from Lincoln Street to the Ridge Avenue/Isabella Street intersection
The contractor for the project is Plote Construction, Inc., located at 1100 Brandt Dr., Hoffman Estates.
