Also as part of the project, Orrington Plaza will be reconfigured and streetscape will be implemented to enhance the aesthetics and improve pedestrian safety. The plaza area will be constructed with porous and regular concrete and a rain garden will be installed as one of the sustainable features of this project. A new bike shelter is also being installed on Church Street.
A project location map is located here>>>. The roadwork is part of the city’s continuous program to improve the roadway system throughout the community. This project is funded by the Washington National TIF Funds and Capital Improvement Funds.
Construction will begin on August 1 with the project expected to be substantially completed by mid-October 2012. During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained on Church Street during the entire project. The actual date when construction is planned will be noted on the temporary “NO PARKING” signs posted 48 hours prior to the start of the work. The construction activities will create some inconveniences for the abutting businesses and residents, but workers will attempt to minimize these issues. The street sweeping and/or neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived for a one-block radius around the construction zone. Allowances have been made to maintain pedestrian access to businesses on Church street and Orrington Avenue for the duration of construction.
