Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services is placing a new ambulance in service today, Tuesday, May 14, 2013. The new ambulance will respond out of Fire Station 2, 702 Madison Street, with the moniker of Ambulance 22.
The new ambulance, a 2012 International, is replacing a 2000 International Medtec Ambulance. Ambulance 22 will be staffed with two firefighter/paramedics and advance life support equipment.
In 2012, Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services responded to a record 9,330 service calls, 5,824 of which were for Emergency Medical Services.
“Our ambulances average about 16 calls a day. Due to the wear and tear on these vehicles, they have a life span of about 13 years. The new ambulance is a welcomed addition to Evanston Fire,” states Fire Chief Greg Klaiber.
