Impact Zone Fund Created for Church Street Waste Transfer Station Area
At their May 14 meeting, City Council members approved a proposal for an environmental monitoring study at the waste transfer station at 1711 Church St.Council also decided to create a dedicated fund sequestered for the purpose of addressing issues caused by the operations of the waste transfer station.

Alderman Slams the Door on Changing 'Three-Unrelated Persons' Law
The Chair of the Planning and Development Committee, Alderman Judy Fiske, 1st Ward, made it clear to all that the debate over any changes to the ordinance prohibiting more than three unrelated persons from living in the same rental unit would not be changed any time soon.

Council Approves Ordinances To Expunge Juveniles' Arrest Records
On May 14, City Council unanimously passed two ordinances, Nos. 15-0-18 and 65-0-18, under which a juvenile’s arrest records and a juvenile’s administrative hearing records will be automatically expunged if certain requirements are met.

Smylie Wishes to Terminate Recycling Center Lease
The future of the former Recycling Center, 2222 Oakton St., is uncertain, as Smylie Brothers is seeking to pull out of its lease with the City. A central question appears to be whether the company will be able to do this scot-free or with a penalty attached.

Foxconn Technology Factory Threatens Great Lakes Equilibrium
A proposed Racine, Wis., liquid crystal display (LCD) factory would divert up to seven million gallons of Lake Michigan water daily. Wisconsin state and local leaders, with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency support, have greenlighted next steps toward construction of the $10 billion factory.

The City of Evanston is seeking motivated members of the community to volunteer as community ambassadors. Ambassadors are committed and involved community members who attend select community events and activities to inform neighbors about City services. Klaiber Appointed Executive Director of Fire Foundation
Evanston Police & Fire Foundation board members approved the appointment of Greg Klaiber as new Executive Director at the April 17 board meeting. The vote followed founding member and outgoing Executive Director James Gordon’s announcement that he would be stepping down.

New Pumping Station Construction Begins
The Morton Grove Niles Water Commission (MGNWC) said in a press release issued on April 27 that it will begin construction of the new water pumping station and water transmission lines at 2525 Church St. in the next two weeks.

Possible Changes to CTA and PACE Service Coming
The Chicago Transit Authority and PACE suburban bus service are on the tail end of a two-year study of north suburban metropolitan Chicago service, and changes to service will be coming. One change has resulted in an outpouring of commentary and protest – possible changes to the 205 bus route to and from Evanston Township High School.

Parking Controversy Erupts During Call of the Wards

The public portion of every Evanston City Council meeting ends with the Call of the Wards (COW), when each alderman announces ward meetings, praises recent events such as Rotary tree plantings, and on occasion makes a referral to City staff or a standing Council committee. Generally, COW passes pleasantly and the meeting either ends or Council graduates into executive session and disappears from public view.
