Students Raise Awareness and Funds for Mental Health in Evanston
In order to raise awareness for mental health in the North Shore, nearly 50 students and teachers combined will Chalk the Walk on May 24 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Fusion Academy Evanston.

District 65 Administrators Present Early Childhood Plan
Dr. Goren said, “When we look at our data, we see significant achievement and opportunity gaps for children, especially when they get to third grade and go beyond. Many children are landing at kindergarten and many children are landing at pre-K with these gaps evident. The urgency is loud and clear.”

Dawes Recognizes School Garden Pioneer
What started in 1987 as a small prairie garden in front of Dawes Elementary School has since blossomed into a large outdoor classroom containing raised beds for vegetables and herbs, a raspberry patch and a butterfly garden thanks in no small part to the work of Lynn Hyndman.

2018 Justin Wynn Award Recipients Named
Each spring, the Justin Wynn Fund honors two fourth- graders from each of the 12 District 65 schools. The 24 recipients are selected by their teachers and administrators for demonstrating outstanding leadership, citizenship and sportsmanship.

Max Weinberg New Principal Of Lincolnwood
On May 7 the District 65 School Board approved a recommendation to appoint Max Weinberg as the next principal of Lincolnwood Elementary School. Mr. Weiberg’s selection followed an extensive process that included the Lincolnwood community, and interviews by a committee of teachers, parents and administrators.

Vaping - Is Evanston Caught Off-Guard?
Evanston Township High School reports that nine students have been caught vaping on school property this year. District 65 reports six students. The Evanston Heath Department cites numbers showing Evanston kids vape at lower rates than others in the State.

ETHS Puts Equity Work on Display For Visiting School Administrators
Administrators from across the country visited Evanston Township High School last week to get a firsthand glimpse of the equity work happening in District 202.  More than 50 superintendents, principals, and school leaders from as far away as Massachusetts and Arizona attended a mini retreat held on March 5 through 7 through the Minority Student Achievement Network.
