Musical Celebration

More than 150 people, both young and old, celebrated the return of Tony Alonso at St. Nicholas Church on June 19. Mr. Alonso, a Cuban-American, is one of the most prominent Latino voices in contemporary liturgical music. During the concert, Mr. Alonso shared that St. Nicholas Church would always be a very special place for him because it became his home while he was a student attending Northwestern University. His bilingual music reflects an understanding of the multicultural needs of the contemporary church as well as a commitment to strong ritual music.

Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Graduate Division of Religion at Emory University in Atlanta, Mr. Alonso is visiting parishes across the country to share the release of his new CDs,” In Endless Song: An Anthology” and “A House of Prayer.” Marion Flynn, a St. Nick’s volunteer, recalled that Mr. Alonso worked exceptionally well with the
Children’s Choir while at St. Nick’s and was always very supportive of young talent. She said, “Tony Alonso is a man of great faith. His passion comes through in each of his songs.”  More information about his music and events can be found at his website, www.tonyalonso.com.
