RoundTable editor/reporter Larry Gavin received a Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club, the Chicago area chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, at its annual awards dinner on May 12. The awards recognize the best of Chicago journalism and are named for Peter Lisagor, the Chicago Daily News’ Washington bureau chief from 1959 to 1976. Mr. Gavin’s award, for “Best Editorial Writing,” was given for a series of editorials published last year in the RoundTable urging School District 202 to adopt higher benchmarks for college readiness.
In 2012, Mr. Gavin received a Lisagor award for Best Education Reporting.
The Chicago Headline Club is one of the largest Society of Professional Journalists chapters in the country.
