More than 700 people gathered at James Park on Aug. 6 to celebrate Jamaica’s independence at the annual Friends & Family Day event hosted by the Evanston Cricket Club. Attendees enjoyed Jamaican cuisine, a cricket match, live music performances, and special guest  B96 radio personality J Niice. Vendors, face painting, and cultural activities rounded out the festivities, which lasted from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Jamaica gained its independence in 1962 from Great Britain.
