Fostering Dance From Within

In September, Foster Dance Studios will celebrate its sixth anniversary with the launch of a new fall dance program. The Studios’ approach to education offers youth a nurturing environment to explore their artistic interests. The studio’s fall program will feature diverse dance programs taught by award-winning instructors for youth of all ages and ability levels.

Foster Dance Studios has earned a reputation for being a fun school with a sophisticated approach to the art of dance. Led by Artistic Director Ronn Stewart, Associate Artistic Director Sarah Goldstone, and Executive Director Kathryn Ebert, the faculty cultivates talent in an inclusive environment. Mr. Stewart, an award-winning choreographer and founder of the contemporary dance company Cocodaco, and Ms. Goldstone, co-founder of Cocodaco and Juilliard School alum, will lead an all-star roster of professional instructors. Featured faculty will include former Ballet Master and Principal Coach for the Joffrey Ballet Graca Sales and several members of Cocodaco.

Since its opening in September of 2011, Foster Dance Studios has sent numerous students to professional dance colleges and summer programs throughout the country such as the Boston Conservatory, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, The Juilliard School, San Francisco Conservatory, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Artistic Director Stewart credits the studios’ emphasis on “fostering the individual” as its key to success. He says, “Foster teaches students to use dance from a human place. …We deconstruct singular dance and make it universal.”

In conjunction with the school’s fall program, Foster Dance Studios features its own dance technique, MoPeD or “More People Dancing,” to which all its dancers are exposed. MoPeD is a fun, aerobic, and improvisational style of dance developed and created by Mr. Stewart. He considers MoPeD the most important aspect of the studios’ student experience. The technique focuses on cultivating technical proficiency while enhancing a dancer’s personal and spiritual education. Executive Director Kathryn Ebert offers this description of the studio philosophy:  “Foster Dance Studios’ goal is to offer an exceptional dance education, to respect the whole individual, and to inspire all students to find the dancer within.”

Registration for the fall session is now open. Classes will run for 16 weeks from Sept. 5-Dec. 23. The studios provide flexible, open schedules and a personalized curriculum. Just steps from the Foster El stop in Evanston, the 7,000-sq. ft. studio also offers convenient street and lot parking. Kathryn Ebert will be happy to provide additional information
