The Evanston Public Library welcomes award-winning author and expert in bilingual education Isabel Campoy and prolific musician, folklorist and writer Suni Paz. Together they will lead a journey through bilingual literature at 6:30 p.m. on April 4 in the Community Meeting Room of the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Avenue.

This visit is part of a larger program, the Family Author Experience, which works to create a shared family, schools and community experience through author visits and is sponsored by Foundation 65. The program, in its fourth year, will bring Ms. Campoy and Ms. Paz to Dawes, Dewey, Oakton, Washington and Willard elementary schools, sites for the Two-Way Immersion program of bilingual education.

EPL Director Karen Danczak Lyons said, “This is another in a series of programs that the EPL is hosting to highlight the rich array of books and collections to serve our Latino patrons. We are delighted to continue to expand our services for patrons of all ages.”

In addition to a book signing later that night, Foundation 65 and the EPL will host a crafts table, a tour of the Library’s collection of children’s books in Spanish and a multimedia show of District 65 children’s art in response to the authors’ work.

“This is a great opportunity for parents to connect with and actively participate in their children’s literacy and multicultural experience. Getting to know these authors will further engage parents and children in reaping the rewards of speaking more than one language,” said Latino Outreach Library Assistant Daylily Alvarez.

“Campoy and Paz are pioneers in the development of bilingual children’s books and music,” said Foundation 65 Executive Director Lise Jinno. “Foundation 65
is thrilled to be able to provide such an amazing opportunity for our students and our community.”

The Library program gives parents, families and the general public a chance to see this brilliant writing and musical team in action.

Come experience these two artists and educators vision of a multicultural world of learning for our kids.
