Chicago Force Play at ETHS on July 20

The Chicago Force Women’s Tackle Football Team will advance to the National Championship if they win against the Boston Militia in the Conference Championship on July 20.  Kickoff  is at 6:00 p.m. at the Evanston Township High School football stadium.

The Chicago Force finished number one in team scoring during the regular season and is a favorite to win the National Championship in San Diego on Aug. 3. Head coach of the Chicago Force and Team USA, John Konecki, is also an Illinois State Champion Coach of the state champion Crete-Monee football team.

Notable players include Sami Grisafe, who made national news in 2001 when she became the first female quarterback in the history of California Interscholastic Federation Division 1 athletics to compete in a varsity game and had a 62.5 completion percentage, 2,582 passing yards, 32 touchdown passes and a sparkling 131.3 passer rating in the 2013 WFA season and Ashley Berggren, a Barrington native and former University of Illinois basketball player, who at one time held the leading scoring record and is the only female athlete to have her jersey raised at the University of Illinois.

In addition to national success, the Chicago Force had nine Chicago players and the majority of the represented on the U.S National Team during the Women’s World Championship in Finland this summer. Team USA crushed their opponents, defeating Finland in the first round 82-0 on June 30 and on the quintessential American holiday, July 4th, Team USA defeated Germany in an astonishing and record-breaking score of 107-7 (the first time 100 points have been scored in an IFAF Women’s World Championship). The team then went on to victory over Canada in the Gold Medal game Saturday, July 6 with a score of 64-0. Chicago's Sami Grisafe was named World Championship tournament MVP.
