Room for a View: One of Me
One of my sisters and I were recently commenting on how much we appreciate our mom and the other people that invested in us as children.

Room for a View: What is a Life?
What happened to Malaysian Flight 17 (even without the why’s) cries out to every human being about the cruelties of fate and the fragility of life in the madness of today’s world.

Editorial: Our Community, Our Youth
Kudos to Team Evanston’s boys’ under-14 soccer team, who just won the national championship. We congratulate them for their wins, and we acknowledge the trust, discipline and passion that went into the making of the team and the victories. That’s teamwork. What these boys have learned and what they have accomplished are the seeds of their future. Even if they gave up sports tomorrow, that would not diminish the value of this summer’s accomplishment.

Room for a View: Independence, Solidarity and Democracy

Room for a View: Reality Check
Just back from Las Vegas for a visit with our kids and grandkids. I never imagined that place being a part of our lives, but with this shrinking planet anyone’s children can widen their parents’ world in surprising ways. Initially, the place was an experience all its own, but very quickly even the Strip lost out to the magic of being with our grandkids – and their parents, of course.

Room for a View: By Greed, Power and Money Possessed
I couldn’t decide whether to entitle this article “Greed” or “Power and Money”, but in thinking about their connectedness, I opted to combine the words. People can be greedy about anything: food, drink, dishes, clothes, shoes, jewels, furniture, houses, property, cars, money, friends, enemies, servants, jobs, praise, etc.

Editorial: We Need to Monitor Senate Bill 16
There is a bill pending in the Senate, Senate Bill 16, that if passed into law will dramatically change the way in which the State allocates its funding to school districts throughout the State. We support this as an overall goal of achieving more equitable funding, but we are concerned about the impact that SB 16 will have on children in Evanston. The bill simply slices the same pie in a different way.
