Team Illinois squeaked by Team Indiana last month, winning the 2009 Quadrangular Midstates Swimming Competition held in Indianapolis by a score of 4949 to 4671. Two Evanston swimmers, 14 year olds Keven Henley and Blake Morgan of the YWCA Flying Fish, contributed mightily to the outcome.
Blake scored top honors in the 13-14 boys 100 breaststroke (1:01.94), 200 breast (2:13.96), 500 free (4:49.36), 400 IM (4:17.16) and Open Boys 1650 free (16:35.77), and came in second in the 200 IM (2:01.40).
Kevin placed third in the Boys 13-14 200 back (2:02.87), third in the 50 free
(23.11), seventh in the 100 back (57.73), and eighth in the 500 free (5:02.83). The annual meet pits teams composed of the best swimmers from throughout each of four states, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio against one another in a bid for state swimming dominance.
