I am outraged that the School Board would consider raising the compensation of the School Superintendent, let alone that he would accept it. At a time when we are in the deepest financial crisis seen since the Great Depression, this is exactly the kind of closed-door shenanigan in government that is no longer acceptable. Is District 65 turning a blind eye to the example of the Obama administration in freezing pay increases? Have the School Board and Superintendent forgotten that they have signed on to be public servants? If the School Board is aligning themselves with “politics as usual,” then they haven’t noticed the American people have risen and spoken. We chose change. If the leaders of District 65 are not smart enough to figure this out for themselves, then they only have to look to Barack Obama and his administration to set the example. We call on Dr. Murphy to pay back the increase to the citizens of Evanston now. — Jane Kuelbs
