Gym Shoe Collection Drive

.  SWANCC coordinates an annual collection for old athletic court-type shoes in cooperation with Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program.  Shoes collected at Chute are taken to the SWANCC transfer station in Glenview and are then transported to Nike’s facility where they become Nike Grind – a material that is used to make running tracks and other athletic court surfaces. King Lab Magnet School
King Lab School‘s annual SpringFest will take place from to on April 25 at the school,

.  This much-anticipated event promises to be fun for all, mixing the best of traditional elements–carnival atmosphere, silent auction, delicious food and drinks – with a whole slew of new games, entertainment, and activities.  SpringFest features carnival games and activities, a middle-school talent show, a chili and corn bread cook-off, a silent auction, bicycle readiness (free check-up for bikes to check air pressure for tires, oil for chains, and other safety issues)Ricky Byrdsong Race Against Hate King Lab Team Sign-up.  Everyone is welcome.

Bessie Rhodes Magnet School

On May 2, Rhodes Magnet School will be hosting the annual “Rhodes Rally” event. This adults -only event is designed to build camaraderie within our community while working together to raise funds for the very important school initiatives that are provided by the PTA. Rhodes Rally will be held at at Prairie Moon Restaurant.  Contact the school at 847 859-8440 for information or to purchase tickets to this fun-filled event.

 

Communiversity Day at NU

District 65 families, as well as the general public, are invited to Northwestern University‘s “Communiversity Day“-an opportunity for Evanston neighbors, families, and friends to visit Northwestern’s campus to enjoy a day of free activities and fun for all ages. There will be SAT/ACT preparations sessions, faculty presentations, arts, science lab experiments and demonstrations, storytelling, crafts, and games for kids.

D65 Kudos

School District 65 congratulates the following District 65 student winners of the 31st annual Jo-Anne Hirshfield Poetry Awards and reception at the Evanston Public Library:  Elementary School:  First place, “A Flower by Ellie Rogers; second place, “Cookies” by Sophie Reeves; third place “When You Join Rock and Roll” by Will Chehab, and the following students who received honorable mention: Anu Raife for “Wind”; Daniel Reyes-Mendoza for “Los pies asombrosos”; and Hannah Campbell for “Friendships.” 

Middle School: First place, “Under the Silver Moon” by Caroline McCance; second place, “Untitled” [The grace and power] by Kelly Russo; and third place, “Untitled” [The ant] by Tessa Dalton.  Honorable Mentions went to o Hannah Arata for her untitled poetry [She was taller than most girls], to Maleka Green for “Forward”; and to Emma Maxwell for “Rapid River“.   

District 65 Head Start Open House

The open house for District 65 Head Start will take place from to on April 24 at Joseph E. Hill Education Center,

  Families are invited to tour the facility and classrooms, get more information about eligibility, registration and the program.  Full day and half-day Head Start programs are available for eligible children ages 3-5.  For more information, call 847 859-8300.

Early Childhood Registration

Registration for early childhood programs takes place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 29 at the Joseph E. Hill Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave.,  for the following programs: • Doorway to Learning • Head Start • SPPAC (Services for PrePrimary age Children • State Pre-K.

Materials will be mailed to families who have children enrolled or receiving service in a District 65 early childhood program. Completed registrations can be either returned by mail or dropped off at the JEH Education Center by April 20. New families and families who cannot register by mail or miss the mail-in deadline can register in person on April 28 and 29 at the JEH Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave. Registration packets can be picked up prior to registration at the JEH Education Center.
