The District 202 School Board recently inducted four new members and two veteran members, only one of whom faced a contested election to win his position. In addition, Board officers were elected.

The only Board member to face a contested election was Alex Block, the student Board member who won his seat with 216 votes out of a field of seven contenders. Mr. Block took the oath of office on May 11.

At the end of March, Mark Metz was appointed to fill the Board position vacated by the resignation of Omar Khuri, who left the Board to take a job in the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Metz was selected by the Board from among ten applicants.

On May 4, the results of the uncontested April 7 election were officially announced. That election returned Martha Burns and Rachel Hayman to the Board with 6,047 and 5,810 votes respectively. New Board members Deborah Graham (5,993 votes) and Gretchen Livingston (5,854 votes) were also sworn in.

At the same meeting, the Board elected Ms. Hayman president and Jane Colleton, a veteran Board member, vice-president. They appointed William Stafford, the District’s chief financial officer, secretary, and Mary Rodino, deputy chief financial officer, treasurer.
