Government Finance Officers Association (GFAO) has presented School District 202 with its Distinguished Budget Presentation award.

Assistant City Manager Martin Lyons presented the award at the May 11 Board meeting. He said that though more than 36,000 entities are eligible for it, only about 1,100 actually receive it.

William Stafford, chief financial officer, and Mary Rodino, deputy chief financial officer, received certificates of recognition as the individuals primarily responsible for the preparation of the budget.

According to information provided by the GFAO, the award reflects a commitment of the recipient to “meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.” In order to receive the award, budget documents must be rated “proficient” in four categories: policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.
