ETHS Presents Awards - Evanston RoundTable

More than 50 awards were presented to Evanston Township High School seniors at the annual awards program on May 19. In announcing the awards, Superintendent Eric Witherspoon said the ETHS class of 2009 had the highest ACT scores in the history of the school.

Adrienne Slaughter received the North End Mothers Club Award for outstanding senior girl, and Adam “Zeke” Spector received the Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize as outstanding senior boy. Adrienne will attend Harvard University, and Adam will attend Ithaca College.

Kim Bell-Pickett presented the Darryl Shannon Pickett Memorial Scholarship to Dontay Strong. The scholarship fund was created in memory of football player Shannon Pickett, who was killed two years ago. “I would be doing this [getting money for college] for him,” Ms. Bell-Pickett told the RoundTable, “but since he’s not here, I’m doing it for someone else. It’s like having a little piece of him still around.”

In addition, the school recognized about 275 seniors who received the 2009 President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence.
