Bike To Work Week” comes to Evanston on June 18. Bicyclists can start the day right at

Fountain Square

between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. for a tuneup from Turin Bicycle Evanston and the non-profit Active Transportation Alliance (formerly the Chicago-land Bicycle Federation). “Bike to Metra,” another part of Bike to Work Week, celebrates a “happy, healthy, two-wheeled commute.” See a complete listing of Bike to Metra events at

Evanston residents Ellen Galland, George Galland, Marian Tweedie and King Ng are among those who bike to work regularly. Mr. Ng, an avid cyclist, makes a 30-mile commute from Evanston to the Chicago Loop regularly from March through November. Similarly, Mr. Galland pedals the 24-mile round trip to his office, alternating routes as the seasons change.

Bike commuting offers physical activity that is also green. A 4-mile round trip keeps about 15 pounds of pollutants out of the air.

The RoundTable would be interested in hearing from others who bike to work regularly. Send a line or two, and perhaps a photo, to info, attention Mary.
