Bike To Work Week” comes to Evanston on June 18. Bicyclists can start the day right at

Fountain Square

between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. for a tuneup from Turin Bicycle Evanston and the non-profit Active Transportation Alliance (formerly the Chicago-land Bicycle Federation). “Bike to Metra,” another part of Bike to Work Week, celebrates a “happy, healthy, two-wheeled commute.” See a complete listing of Bike to Metra events at www.activetrans.org/biketoworkweek.

Evanston residents Ellen Galland, George Galland, Marian Tweedie and King Ng are among those who bike to work regularly. Mr. Ng, an avid cyclist, makes a 30-mile commute from Evanston to the Chicago Loop regularly from March through November. Similarly, Mr. Galland pedals the 24-mile round trip to his office, alternating routes as the seasons change.

Bike commuting offers physical activity that is also green. A 4-mile round trip keeps about 15 pounds of pollutants out of the air.

The RoundTable would be interested in hearing from others who bike to work regularly. Send a line or two, and perhaps a photo, to info
