Over the past nine years, Literature for All of Us (LFAOU) has celebrated mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, mentors, caretakers and friends – not to mention the organization’s own wonderfully talented poets and authors – during LFAOU’s annual Honor Thy Mother spring benefit. On May 9, more than over 250 supporters gathered at the Doubletree Hotel in Skokie to listen to guest speaker and author Annie Barrows and to applaud the poetry reading from three young women who are members of LFAOU’s book groups. Honor Thy Mother benefit co-chair Laura Jacobs announced that close to $50,000 was raised at the literary event and luncheon, funds which will support the organization’s many literacy programs for at-risk women and men.
