The recipients of the North End Mothers’ Club three annual scholarships were named at the Evanston Township High School Awards night held May 19, 2009.

Adrienne Slaughter is the 59th annual recipient of the prestigious Senior Girls Honor Award. Adrienne was captain of the varsity track team, Executive Board member of the Writer’s Showcase, Facilitator of the Central Suburban League Leadership Conference. She was also a member of the Junior Engineering and Technical Society Team, the Superintendent’s Advisory Council and the Senior Class Board. Adrienne will be attending Harvard in the fall.

Awarded annually since 1953, the recipient of the Senior Girls Honor Award is selected by her classmates based on qualities that include intellectual ability, character, leadership and distinguished service to both school and community. Each recipient receives the award for four years of undergraduate study.

Ashley Tolentino received the Nursing Scholarship. Ashley was a four year member of the Asian Pacific American Club and served as its co-president. She performed in the handbell choir at ETHS and since her freshman year, Ashley has competed and been named Gold or Silver winner at the Chicago area Sonatina Piano Competition. Ashley plans to attend the University of Illinois-Chicago to study nursing.

The Joanne Murphy Trautwein Music Award was presented to Julian Allen. Julian participated for four years in the Concert Band, Jazz Big Band, Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Combo. He was a two year member the Top Combo, the Top Jazz Ensemble and the ETHS Band Mentorship Program and a one year member of Marching Band and Master Singers. He was also a YAMO board member for three years. Julian will attend the University of Michigan where he will major in music and jazz drum set.

The North End Mothers’ Club, an Evanston institution since 1911, is dedicated to raising money to support its scholarship initiatives, as well as other Evanston youth oriented organizations.
