The City of Evanston has announced four upcoming infrastructure improvement projects beginning July 13th and 20th, 2009.  The City will start projects on

Park Place

July 13th and

Lake Street

on July 20th.  The State of Illinois will begin projects on

Dempster Street

and

starting July 13th.

Park Place

(

Gross Point Road

to Central Park Avenue )

Over the next ten weeks the City will be contracting water main replacement and roadway work on

Park Place

, from

Gross Point Road

to Central Park Avenue .  This project includes the replacement of the existing six inch water main with a new ten inch water main from

Gross Point Road

to

Lawndale Avenue

. The water main work is part of the City’s continuous program to renovate and improve the water distribution system throughout the community.

On

Park Place

the water main trench will be patched with concrete and the street will be resurfaced.  The street resurfacing will include the replacement of concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalk where needed.

Accessible ramps will also be built at street intersections.  The funding for the project will be from the City’s CIP Street Resurfacing Funds; there will be no direct charge for the property owners on these streets.

Construction will begin the week of July 13.  The entire water main installation and service transfer to the new water main is expected to be fully completed by the last week in August. The last phase of the project will be the full street resurfacing of

Park Place

from

Gross Point Road

to Central Park Avenue.

The resurfacing work is expected to be completed by the end of September. The actual date when construction is planned to begin will be noted on the temporary “NO PARKING” signs posted 48 hours prior to the start of work. The water main construction will be completed in stages, working from east to west. The residents will be notified 24 hours prior to transfer of the services. After the water main is installed, there will be a short time period of minor activity while the water main is placed in service. The Resident Engineer is responsible to notify the residents at least 30 minutes before this interruption occurs.

The construction activities will create some inconvenience for area residents, but the City will make an attempt to minimize these problems. Construction zone daytime “No Parking” restrictions will be in effect for the majority of the project duration; evening and nighttime parking (5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) will always be available. Street sweeping restrictions shall be waived for a one block radius of the construction zone when temporary daytime “No Parking” is in effect.
