CommUNITY Picnic – Sunday

The CommUNITY Picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 23, from to at Ingraham Park behind the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center,

2100 Ridge Ave.

The picnic is sponsored by the City of Evanston Department of Health and Human Services and the Evanston Police Department.

Everything is free, including:

  • Entertainment – local bands and choirs, and the Jesse White Tumblers;

  • Food – provided and prepared by Kiwanis and many, many local restaurants;

  • Activities – bingo, games, face painting; fire department safe house; police canine unit demonstration, kids corner, and a cake walk;

  • Giveaways – school supplies, and raffles.

Latino Health Fair – Saturday

 The annual Latino Health Fair will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, from to at Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center,

1655 Foster St

.  Both NorthShore University HealthSystem (Evanston Hospital) and Saint Francis Hospital will offer free cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure screenings.  

 In addition, the health fair will feature organizations in Evanston that provide health and human services to the Latino community, including Evanston Skokie Valley Senior Services, Metropolitan Family Services, the city of Evanston HHS (All Kids Program), HAIS Chicago, Centro Romero, NAMI, American Cancer Society, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and Chicago New Sanctuary. The Evanston Police Department and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky’s constituent office will participate.

There will be activities for children and food will be available.


The health fair is sponsored by the Evanston Coalition for Latino Resources.
