At approximately 12:20 a.m., on Aug. 30, Evanston policemen responded to a call of a person shot in the street in the 1700 block of Grey Avenue, said the police in a prepared statement. Upon arrival, the officers found a 21-year old male shot and unresponsive behind a residence in that block. Evanston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and began treatment of the victim; he was subsequently transported to Evanston Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Evanston Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, along with assistance from the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, is currently investigating this incident. Crime scene technicians are processing the scene and investigators are interviewing potential witnesses to the incident. No one is in custody at this time. The motive for this crime has not yet been determined, said the police.
The victim is identified as Helder M. Torres of 4923 N. Whipple, Chicago.
