Metra will unveil on Sept. 9 a new website – – that will allow passengers to buy tickets online with their credit or debit cards, to sign up to receive e-mail alerts whenever there is a late train, and to obtain schedules and other information.

 “We’re excited to tap into all the latest technology to give our riders the most useful website possible,” said Philip A. Pagano, executive director of Metra.

One key feature of the new site is that riders will be able to set up a “My Metra” account to personalize the information they get from the site, said Metra in a prepared statement. For example, the website will create a customized view of a passenger’s line and train schedule and list any alerts regarding service problems. Passengers also can ask to receive e-mail alerts whenever there is a late train or other problem on their line that could affect their commute. They may ask to receive promotional e-mails from Metra.

With a “My Metra” account, riders also can schedule recurring orders for 10-ride tickets and monthly passes. They may also buy tickets online using a credit or debit card.

Passengers will be able to buy up to two monthly passes and up to three 10-ride tickets per transaction on the new site. Monthly passes must be ordered by the 24th of the prior month, and Metra says they will then be delivered by the 1st of the month.
