Matt Pogodzinski is a physician on a mission. Inspired by Lance Armstrong and the “Livestrong” organization, the physician and testicular cancer survivor swam 13 miles in Lake Michigan‘s cool waters on Aug. 22 to raise money for cancer. His swim was more than twice the length of a typical six-mile open-water swim during the Olympics.
Dr. Pogodzinski, who has completed many marathons and triathlons, was diagnosed with testicular cancer three years ago but is currently in remission. “Lance Armstrong’s personal story inspired me to
challenge myself physically after cancer. I want to
raise money for Livestrong and share my own story
so others will know what’s possible after a cancer diagnosis,” he said.
An Evanston resident practicing at St. Francis Hospital, Dr. Pogodzinski is an ear, nose and throat specialist.
