A group of creative and inspired third-grade students at King Lab Magnet School won second place in the elementary division of the state-wide contest, “Art on a Rain Barrel,” an event that was part of It’s Our River Day, celebrated at Chicago‘s Navy Pier, co-sponsored by Governor Quinn and the Chicago Botanic Gardens. The students painted onto a rain barrel, illustrating ways to protect and preserve river water.
The King Lab third-graders who participated in this project are Dhruva Mohnalkar, Alec Avery, Kai Dowling and Max Gelhausen. They were ably assisted by sixth-grade schoolmate Mariko Dowling.
