DISTRICT 65 SCHOOL NEWS DIGEST
District 65 Wellness Council meets Monday, October 12, 2009 at 4:00 – 5:15 pm at the Joseph E. Hill Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Avenue, Evanston. At this first meeting of the Wellness Council for this school year, discussions will include results of the school wellness policy evaluations from 2008-09. Observers are welcome. District 65 Board Finance Committee meeting takes place Monday, October 12, 2009 at 6:00 pm at the JEH Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Avenue, Evanston, IL. The Board Finance committee reviews monthly financial reports and makes recommendations for action by the full board for contracts, bids, etc. The committee is chaired by Board member Katie Bailey. District 65 Calendar Committee meets Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 4:30 pm. The District 65 calendar committee includes parents, teachers, and administrators who provide input to the development of the annual school calendar. The meeting will be held in the Board room of the Joseph E. Hill Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Avenue, Evanston, IL. District 65 Magnet School Planning Committee meets Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 6:00 pm at the Joseph E. Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Avenue in the Jordan Teacher Center. The committee was formed to address a strategic plan goal to discuss and make written recommendations for the future purpose and instructional focus for each of the district’s magnet schools. Kingsley Elementary School
The PTA of Kingsley Elementary School is hosting the 2nd annual Go Green Olympics event, on Saturday October 17, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., where classmates and their families get active by running laps, shooting hoops, and jumping rope. Participants will receive a medal for each event attempted promoting active lifestyles. Last years’ event was a success with more than 200 classmates and their families in attendance. Kingsley is committed to supporting a healthier lifestyle for students by promoting environmental and nutritional habits that will benefit everyone. Water and healthy snacks will be provided to fuel energy for “Olympic” events. “Go green” fundraising will also take place through purchase of organic veggie boxes, recycling ink cartridges, and sneakers as well as other activities that raise awareness and funds for the more than 50 Kingsley events, clubs, and other programs each year. New this year, a mini demo session of Pilates provided by a Kingsley parent for classmates and their families. Participants are also invited to bring gently used clothing to be donated to Evanston School Children’s Clothing Association.
