A ribbon-cutting ceremony will celebrate the reopening of a newly renovated library media center at Haven Middle School, 2417 Prairie Ave. at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28.
The evening’s activities will include a presentation by Evanston resident Laurie Lawlor, one of authors visiting the school during the week of Oct. 27. Authors Ann Bausum (Oct. 27), Ms. Lawlor (Oct. 28) and Sharon Flake (Oct. 29) will give classroom presentations and sign copies of their books. The Haven PTSA and Foundation 65 helped fund the presentations.
“This collaboration between the District, its educational foundation, and the community-at-large is a testament to the great things that we can accomplish when we all work together,” said Superintendent Hardy Murphy.
The renovations of the library/media center were funded in part with more that $50,000 in private donations, said School District 65 in a prepared statement. Haven parents Vicki Lydon, Kathleen Long, and Alison Chiaro spearheaded the fundraising campaign and worked with Don Stevenson, Buildings & Grounds Director, Amy Odwarka, the school librarian, and Haven parent Joel Stein to design the state-of-the art resource center for Haven students, said the District.
