Northwestern University’s Homecoming Weekend kicks off at 7 o’clock Friday night, with a concert in Deering Meadow by the NU Marching Band, followed by the parade down Sheridan Road, with parade marshal Chicago Bear and NU alum Nick Roach.

Other parade participants will include Northwestern University President Morton Schapiro, Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, and Maria Arana, a Washington Post editor, former Northwestern Homecoming Queen and recipient of the 2009 Alumnae of Northwestern Award. In addition to appearing on one of the Homecoming Parade floats, Ms. Arana, an award-winning author, will crown the 2009 Homecoming queen at the half-time celebration during the Saturday (Oct. 24) football game at Ryan Field. The big game, against Indiana University, begins at 11 a.m.
