The PBS series “Religion and Ethics Newsweekly” will feature Evanston’s Renewal in the Wilderness at 6 a.m. on Nov. 14 on WTTW.

Founded in 2001 by John Lionberger, RITW offers adults of any
faith – and often enough, no faith –
an opportunity to reconnect with their spiritual core by using the wilderness in the same way people have found so effective for at least 6000 years: by spending intentional time in nature. 2010 offerings include canoe and kayak trips in the Midwest and West. Mr. Lionberger has also written “Renewal in the Wilderness: A Spiritual Guide to Connecting With God in the Natural World,” a book about connecting with the spiritual power of the wilderness.

Mr. Lionberger, a former agnostic/atheist, is now an ordained UCC minister and expert wilderness guide, trained by both NOLS and Outward Bound. He has led or participated in hundreds of wilderness trips in many parts of the world.
