Audrey Soglin, a former teacher at School District 65 and a former president of the District Educators Council (the teachers union at District 65), has been named as the executive director of the Illinois Education Association (IEA), the largest education employees’ union in Illinois.
Ms. Soglin began her teaching career teaching special education students, and over 25 years, she also taught first, second, fourth and fifth grades at School District 65. She served three terms as president of DEC, an affiliate of IEA.
Before taking over as executive director of IEA, Ms. Soglin was the executive director of the Consortium for Educational Change, a network of Illinois school districts and professional organizations designed to improve student achievement by assisting member districts and schools to become collaborative, high-performing organizations. She also served as the director of the Center for Educational Innovation of the IEA.
