A seventeen year old Evanston man was charged with one felony count of burglary to an automobile due to an alert resident and excellent police work, said Commander Tom Guenther, public information officer of the Evanston Police Department in a prepared statement.
On Saturday, Nov. 13, at approximately 7:30 p.m. an Evanston resident was returning from a walk with his family, when he noticed someone inside his automobile, which was parked in the 200 Block of Dempster. The car owner confronted the offender who fled on foot. The car owner pursued the offender, while other family members contacted Evanston police.
Evanston police officers responded, set up a perimeter and began to conduct a systematic search of the area. Officers located a young man matching the description of the offender, and the young man was subsequently identified as the person observed in the victim’s car. The young man was charged with burglary to an automobile.
