During its second annual coat drive to support the Evanston School Children’s Clothing Association (ESCCA), the North End Mothers Club collected more than 100 coats and vests as well as hats, scarves and gloves.
“We were extremely pleased with the number of Club members who donated coats this year” said Club President Karin Ruetzel. “But even more exciting was the response we received when we asked the parents of the students participating in our Fortnightly dance classes to donate coats” she continued. Giant decorated bins were placed at the dance class location during two different dance sessions and coats poured in.
“It was great to see the Fortnightly parents get behind such a great organization
like ESCCA. We’ll continue to ask for their support of our coat drive in the future”
said Nicole Marks, Fortnightly chairperson.
On the morning the coats were delivered to the ESCCA headquarters, located in
the Hill Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave., North End Mothers’ Club members were on hand to assist the ESCCA volunteers with sorting and stocking the donations.
This gave the members an opportunity to get a first hand look at ESCCA’s organization and mission. In addition to providing outer wear for Evanston children, ESCCA also provides shoes, pants, sweaters and shirts. Run completely by volunteers, ESCCA is always looking for gently used contributions of children’s clothing, sized for students in grades 1-8. For more information on ESCCA go to www.escca.org.
