Carolyn Dellutri and Laura Folkl of Downtown Evanston led the group in singing holiday songs until Santa and Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl alighted from a fire truck, greeted the crowd and pulled the switch to light the holiday tree.Despite the raw weather, on the Tuesday evening before Thanksgiving, Evanston kept with tradition and welcomed the next holiday season.
Waiting for Santa and the Mayor to arrive at Fountain Square for the lighting of the tree, the scores of hardy but rain-soaked residents huddled under umbrellas or shivered in groups but still maintained the good cheer of the holiday season.
