Editor:

I wanted to take a moment to share with RoundTable readers why I am supporting Patrick Keenan-Devlin as the next state representative for the 18th District.  I have now had a chance to hear each of the candidates discuss the wide range of issues facing this district and the State of Illinois more broadly.

Whether the issue is the state’s current financial condition, corruption and the need for campaign finance reform, or the state’s faltering education system, Patrick is the candidate who most fully grasps the problem and has a realistic plan to address it.  He has been in Springfield working on these issues for several years.

His work as the Legislative Director for Citizen Action/Illinois, the state’s largest public interest organization, has given him an opportunity to fully understand how the General Assembly currently works and how coalitions can be built to realistically bring about change.  That is why he has already earned endorsements from groups as diverse as the AFL-CIO, New Trier Democratic Organization, SEIU Doctors’ Council and the Stonewall Democrats.

It is also likely why he earned more than twice the votes of any other candidate at the endorsement session of the Democratic Party of Evanston.  Perhaps most important, he has the passion, dedication and energy to work tirelessly on these issues.  True reform will not come easy in this state.

We need someone with Patrick’s knowledge, insight, energy and ability to bring diverse groups together, if we are really going to see progress.  Patrick is the right person to represent this district.
