Police responding to the report of a robbery at Hanan’s convenience store, 1942 Maple Ave., arrested two Chicago men and charged them with aggravated robbery. The robbery occurred just after 1 p.m. on Dec. 21, police said. Two offenders approached the sales counter as if to pay for a purchase and then one produced a handgun and jumped the sales counter while the second offender ran around confronting the victim, according to the police. The offenders then demanded money from the victim and obtained an unknown amount of cash. Both offenders then fled the store leaving the immediate area in a blue-colored vehicle, police said.
Evanston police then conducted a citywide search for the offenders. A short while later, Evanston police detectives radioed they had a suspect vehicle stopped in the area of Kirk Street and Asbury Avenue. Police recovered robbery proceeds and a replica plastic handgun and arrested two men, one 37 and the other, 30, both of Chicago.
