There are contested primary elections among Democratic candidates for judge
of two 9th Judicial Subcircuits.

For the 9th Judicial Subcircuit, there are four Democratic candidates running in the primary: Abbey Fishman Romanek, a Wilmette resident; Yehuda Lebovits, a Lincolnwood resident; Judge Geary W. Kull, an Evanston resident; and Dennis Michael Fleming, a Chicago resident. In 2009, the Illinois Supreme Court appointed Judge Kull as a Circuit Court Judge to fill a vacancy.

For the 9th Judicial Subcircuit A, there are six candidates running in the primary: Steven James Bernstein, an Evanston resident; Judge Michael Ian Bender, a Lincolnwood resident; Jeffrey Dov Greenspan, a Skokie resident; William Joseph Luby, an Evanston resident; Scott Bagnall, a Skokie resident; and Mary S. Trew, a Chicago resident. In 2008, the Illinois Supreme Court appointed Judge Bender as a Circuit Court Judge to fill a vacancy.

Ten bar associations have rated the judicial candidates running in the Feb. 2 primary.
