Evanston Township High School will host the seventh annual Evanston Jazz Festival from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the high school, 1600 Dodge Ave. The event focuses on educating high school jazz students and showcasing their talents. It attracts more than 300 student musicians from school bands as far away as Winnipeg, Manitoba, to as near as Chicago – this year with more than 40 bands and combos from more than 16 schools.
Between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., high school jazz bands and combos will perform in four different venues at the school. From 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., there will be hourly clinics and workshops on a variety of jazz topics. At 4:30 p.m. a special jazz workshop will be held with acclaimed Chicago-based trumpeter Rob Parton and members of his band. At 7:30 p.m., the ETHS Jazz Ensemble will play in concert with the Rob Parton Big Band.
All daytime activities are free and open to the public. Food is available for purchase. Tickets for the evening performance are $20; $15 for children, students with I.D. and seniors. All seats are reserved. Call 847- 424-7848 or visit www.ethsjazz.com.
