“Hoops for Haiti” is an effort coordinated by the fifth-grade girls’ basketball team at St. Athanasius School to raise money for Haiti. During recess on Feb. 4, students participated in a basketball shooting contest: Four free-throw shots or four three-point shots cost $5, and the ultimate “half-court challenge” shots were two for $5.

“Hoops for Haiti” was part of “Hawks for Haiti,” the school’s overall fundraising effort for Haiti. Students were asked to bring money for the cause in late January. One student even contributed $45 of his own money. Student Council members gave to each donor a Redhawks spirit bracelet or Redhawks sports towel.

Proceeds from “Hawks for Haiti” and “Hoops for Haiti” were sent to Catholic Relief Services.
