Board members take on the important responsibility of providing governance for a not-for-profit organization. They may be well versed on the organization’s mission, but what about its finances? Whether of not they have financial backgrounds, board members and the board as a whole have an important role in providing financial oversight and protecting the assets of the organization. 

Evanston Community Foundation and the Illinois CPA Society are co-sponsoring a workshop on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in the Community Room of the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave., to focus on this topic.  

Participants will learn the basics of financial responsibilities: what a board member needs to know and be aware of to ensure a not-for-profit’s financial health.  The workshop is geared towards board members; individuals considering joining a board; executive directors and other staff members working with boards on financial management; or teams of staff and board members representing not-for-profit organizations.
