The Haitian Congress to Fortify Haiti enlisted community members to help load two forty-foot containers with donated goods to ship to Haiti.
A major earthquake hit the country on Jan. 12, leaving more than 1 million homeless, living under tents or in open air exposed to the dangers of the coming rainy season.
The response in Evanston has been the donation of funds, medical supplies, crutches, canes, canned goods, clothing and hygienic goods, said Second Ward Alderman Lionel Jean-Baptiste, chair of the Haitian Congress.
On March 13, Alison Lature, executive director of the Haitian Congress, oversaw the process of loading one of two 40-foot containers with donated goods to be shipped to Haiti.
