The City of Evanston’s Women Out Walking (WOW) program is a free, 12-week walking and health-education campaign to promote health, wellness, community and physical activity for the women of Evanston. The program, open to women of all ages and fitness levels, runs March 27-June 20. There will be an orientation at 9 a.m. on March 27 at Evanston Township High School Auditorium 1600 Dodge Ave. (Bacon Cafeteria entrance). Among the benefits of walking are that it may help prevent depression, lower stress levels, elevate overall mood, improve sleep, lengthen life span, manage weight, reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, control blood pressure, reduce the risk of breast cancer and type-2 diabetes and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Each walker will receive a walking journal, a pedometer and a WOW T-shirt, and will be eligible to win prizes.
