Forms Arrive This Week

After months of preparing and advertising about the 2010 Census, forms will begin to arrive in residents mailboxes this week. There is one form per address. All residents living in Evanston are asked to take 10 minutes to fill out this important questionnaire. Responses not only decide how you are represented but also where over 400 billion dollars in federal money goes on a yearly basis. The US Census Bureau wants to ensure that all residents have the right information and are able to be counted in a safe, secure environment. For the 2010 count, the Bureau has initiated a Questionnaire Assistance Center program, aimed at providing access to trained US Census Bureau staff that will be able to answer questions pertaining to the Questionnaire.

Questionnaire Assistance Centers

Starting March 19, 2010, the US Census Bureau will be operating Questionnaire Assistance Centers (QAC) in the City of Evanston. These centers, located throughout the city, will be open to provide residents a chance to ask questions in person with a certified Census Bureau employee. The main purpose of the QAC is to assist people in the completion of the census questionnaires and to offer the language assistance needed. The QACs will be equipped with a “Be Counted” Box, housing questionnaires in six different languages (See the “Be Counted” Section of this site). A QAC will also have 59 Language Assistance Guides and also a Braille and Large Print Language Assistance Guide.

Be Counted Boxes

The Be Counted Box program provides census questionnaire forms in six different languages. They are primarily co-located with a Questionnaire Assistance Center. Be Counted Boxes target persons who did not get a census questionnaire at home or who does not appear on the census questionnaire for their household as well as persons with no address on Census Day (April 1, 2010). The questionnaires located at all Be Counted locations are available in the following languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Vietnamese.

In the City of Evanston all Be Counted Boxes are located with all Questionnaire Assistance Centers. Please check the QAC section of this site for locations.
