Students at Chute will be learning about the culture of Japan through a series of guided field trips to several Japanese Gardens, the Art Institute, and an East Asian market. As a result of the grant from the Japanese Foundation Center for Global Partnership, awarded to Ms. Kitty Okano, English as Second Language (ESL ) teacher and Ms. Felicia Przekota, Building Technology Facilitator, the students will trace the origin of the formal garden from China to Japan and study the relationship of geography, religion, culture, and art on garden design and function.
Students will have the opportunity to create designs for their school’s courtyard which reflect the tranquility and harmony of Japanese design. A concluding festival and performance by the Taiko Drummers is also being scheduled. For more information about this partnership and the studies planned for the year, contact Ms. Przekota at Chute Middle School.
