Dr. Ngoc-Diep Nguyen, assistant superintendent of instructional services for the Des Plaines elementary school district since 2006, will begin work at Evanston Township High School on July 1. The Evanston Township High School School Board approved her appointment at its March 8 meeting. Dr. Nguyen will replace Dr. Laura Cooper, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at ETHS since 1995, who retires in June.

Dr. Nguyen served for 12 years in Schaumburg School District 54 as director of bilingual/multicultural programs. For the past four years, Dr. Nguyen has led the 11-school Des Plaines District 62 in the areas of curriculum and instruction, assessment, bilingual and gifted education, No Child Left Behind-compliance, professional development, mentoring and training of new teachers and implementation of state and federal grants.

“Dr. Nguyen is an acclaimed, collaborative leader who has the experience and passion to help lead ETHS to the next level,” said ETHS Superintendent Eric Witherspoon. He added, “Her educational beliefs and her professional mission align with our vision at ETHS to exemplify equity and excellence by assuring academic success for all students through eliminating the predictability of racial disparities in student achievement. We are excited to have her as part of our team at ETHS.”

At ETHS, Dr. Nguyen will be the primary administrator responsible for curricular activities, and will serve as the primary liaison between ETHS and School District 65 as well as the ETHS School Improvement Team. She will also direct curriculum planning and development; recommend changes in curriculum based on school goals, research findings or evaluation results; and coordinate the staff development program.
