Both Evanston locations of Whole Foods will turn over 5 percent of their April 7 profits to Schools Actively Gardening in Evanston (SAGE) to support school gardens. SAGE will partner with Keep Evanston Beautiful to promote school gardens.
Bob Heuer of the District 65/202 Legislative Task Force said SAGE is one of the thousands of “farm-to-school” programs nationwide that could benefit from a provision in the new Child Nutrition Act Reauthorization Act, which would create a mandatory $10,000 a year competitive grant program for farm-to-school programs. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky is one of the bill’s original co-sponsors.
