The 23rd annual YEA! Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., on the sidewalks of the Chicago/Dempster business district. In case of rain the event will move to Dawes School, Dodge & Oakton.
YEA! is a festival of visual art created by Evanston students. All public, private and parochial schools, pre-school through high school, are invited to exhibit students’ artwork in this inclusive, non-competitive festival. In addition to visual art, the performing arts stage features music and dance performances from Evanston youth.
YEA! now has an easy-to-use interactive website for all the latest information about what’s happening at this year’s Festival and with this fast-growing organization. Log on to www.yeaevanston.org to see what schools are participating, who’s performing, this year’s sponsors and how to become a YEA! volunteer and supporter.
The purpose of YEA! is to provide a forum for children to exhibit and perform their art in a non-competitive and non-commercial setting and to nuture, enable and inspire young children, so that they may find fulfillment in the expression of their creative spirit.
Young Evanston Artists was founded by Harvey Pranian, a local art and antiques dealer whose two children attended Evanston schools. As a businessman making a living in Evanston, he felt that the business community should give back to its community.
This year more than 6000 students from 40 schools will participate in the YEA! Festival, and thousands of people will crowd the sidewalks to enjoy their delightful artwork and performances.
YEA!, as the first festival of the Evanston season, has widespread community support from the City of Evanston, the Chamber of Commerce, and businesses including Whole Foods, S.P.A.C.E., Duxler Tires, and the Footprint Fund. Autobarn of Evanston is the title sponsor of this year’s YEA! Festival.
